Premier Hoops Oregon Showcase – Day 1 Report
We take a look at some of the key match ups, stand outs, and surprises from the first full day of the Premier Hoops Oregon Showcase held at the The Hoop Salem.
Best Game: The Hoop Salem 17U (82) – Portland Basketball Club EYBL (80)
In a game that went back and forth throughout, Hoop Salem pulled out the win when 2018 guard Kyle Greeley hit a tough pull up jumper with 2 seconds to go. The game turned in to a battle between top 50 national recruit Kamaka Hepa of PBC and Greely and 2019 point guard Jaden “Skinny” Nielsen for Hoop Salem.
Best Performance: Kyle Greeley 2018 Guard (Hoop Salem/West Salem HS)
The most common description of Greeley amongst coaches and scouts is, “that kid just finds a way to score.” This was especially true in the win over Portland Basketball Club when Greeley showed the ability to score from all three levels on his way to a 36 point performance. The effort cemented his status amongst the Idaho coaching staff, as Greeley picked up his first D1 offer from the Vandals shortly after the game.
Best Coaching Job: Sean Brownhill Score Athletics
Despite going 0-2 on the day, we came away impressed with the coaching of Brownhill. His short handed squad (missing their two best players) went to overtime vs Team Flight and then hung tough with Seattle Rotary EYBL for a long time. SCORE played hard throughout the day, ran some good offensive actions, and played well together, all signs of a well coached team.
Best Talent: Kamaka Hepa 2018 Forward (Portland Basketball Club/Jefferson HS)
The 6’9 Hepa, lived up to his national ranking (#45) in the losing effort, connecting on numerous deep three pointers, displaying a great feel for spacing, and being very effective in the pick & roll game. On the defensive end, Hepa used his length to challenge shots and was active in rebounding the ball. Simply said, he does a lot of things well and it will be interesting to see if he becomes a little more assertive offensively in college.
Other Standouts:
Jay Elmore 6’0 Guard (2018/Team Flight/South Eugene HS)
Elmore proved throughout the day that he is one of the elite shooters in the state. He carried flight to a nice win over Score Athletics and then impressed many watching by helping his team hang around against a loaded Team Prodigy from Los Angeles.
Jaden Nielsen 5’9 Guard (2019/Hoop Salem/South Salem HS)
The undersized Skinner continues to prove his doubters wrong by playing well against quality competition. Skinner controlled the pace of the game against PBC and routinely found teammates Greely and Teagan Quitoriano for open looks. On the defensive end, “Skinny” routinely battled against bigger players looking to post him up and more than held his own.
Ty Rankin 6’2 Guard (2019/Portland Basketball Club/Grant HS)
The physical Rankin showed off an improved offensive game, knocking down open shots as well as finishing through contact at the rim in leading his team to an OT win over Team FAST in a battle of the two best 16U teams in the state.
Mason Lomax 5’11 Guard (2020/Hoop Salem/Sprague HS)
Lomax displayed a poise beyond his years in leading his team to two wins on the day. Showed the ability to break down the defense get in the paint and create plays for himself and his teammates. Struggled at times to finish at the rim, but expect that to come as he continues to develop and mature physically.
Filip Fullerton 6’10 Post (2018/Team Fly/Southridge HS)
The big man showed off his improved range, knocking down shots to 20 feet. He also was active in defending the rim and rebounding the ball on the defensive end. A lot of eyes were on Fullerton throughout the day and we wouldn’t be shocked to see him garner his first offer in the near future.
