Player Profile: Filip Fullerton 6’10 Post (2018/Southridge HS/Team Fly)
For the last several years, Southridge High School has had a run of quality big men come through their program. 2018 post Filip Fullerton is showing the promise to be the best of the bunch by the time his senior year is over. We caught up with the 6’10 big man to recap the high school season, preview the July AAU period, and see what he is looking for in a future college home.
“Our high school season was a huge improvement over last year. We won a home playoff game and lost in the game to go to the state tournament.” On a personal level Fullerton talked about how his confidence grew throughout the year as his game improved and he realized he could match up against some of the best posts in the state. After averaging 13 points and 9 rebounds per game, Fullerton has spent the off season working with his high school coach to improve his shooting range and has also spent time in the weight room working to get bigger and stronger.
“The spring aau season was a little frustrating. Our Team Fly group dealt with a lot of injuries, so we were never able to truly get our whole team together at the same time. We are all excited to come together in July for some big tournaments. I like the mix of guys that we have, guys get along really well, and we have good team chemistry.” Team Fly 17U is coached by Jeff Williams, the assistant at Chemeketa Community College and will play in tournaments in Anaheim, Salem, and the Big Foot event in Las Vegas.
When asked about what he was looking for in a potential college program, Fullerton replied “What’s going to be most important is the level of academic competitiveness. I take school and academics very seriously and would like to get the education I need to be successful in life after basketball.” “Obviously a good program culture with coaches and teammates I connect with is important too.” Fullerton mentioned a long list of colleges that he’s hearing from or very interested in ranging from D1 programs to high academic D3 programs. With a cumulative gpa of 3.41, he should have plenty of options to choose from.
Prep Hoops Oregon Evaluation:
Filip Fullerton is a 6’10 post at Southridge HS in Beaverton, Oregon. He had a nice junior year in a very tough league averaging 13 points & 9 rebounds per game. He has worked hard this off season to improve his body and has added weight and muscle to his frame as well as growing a couple of inches. He’s also extended his range and now shows the potential to be effective in a pick & pop type setting. Does a nice job of protecting the rim defensively and is an active rebounder. Would like to see him develop a little more of a back to the basket game.
