Hawthorne Shootout #HHCSO : Standouts Pt. 4/4
Jacobi Byrd: P.K. Yonge School
Byrd was the surprise of the night with his energy on both sides of the ball. Not typically a guy that would get a lot of minutes, Byrd made every second count while he was on the floor. He’s confident in his ability to put the ball on the ground and penetrate the lane. Whenever a loose ball popped up, he was one of the first to the hardwood. It seemed as if he were just in the right place at the right time, all the time, in that game. Byrd can be an X-Factor for the Wave, should he improve.
Devin Lawrence: Hawthorne High School
Lawrence is a floor general. He can dictate the game with his energy, or merely off his passing ability. His ball-placement off bounce passes is always spot-on. He knows how to attack the basket with control, or kick it out to the open outside shooter. His handles are pretty well-developed. Going into his final year, strength and conditioning has been said to be his biggest focus. The way he can absorb contact going to the rim proves he’s been working on that.
Justin Wright: Hawthorne High School
This guy is new to the game of basketball, but has a great upside if he can continue to develop. He can rebound well at 6’2”. Wright’s already developed a nice post presence with his ability to back defenders down under the rim and score. He’s also a football player, so his level of physical tolerance is high. Wright takes contact well, and can leap out the gym. Wright can be a nice asset for the Hornets going forth, no doubt.
