Recruiting Report: Dejuon Small (2018)
2018 guard Dejuon Small and his Florida Prep squad put up a tough fight in the Class 2A state title.
The Falcons finished 23-6 and fell just three points short in a 51-48 loss as Miami Christian won on a Neftali Alvarez 3-pointer at the buzzer. The 5’11”, 150-pound Small played a crucial role in the state run as he led Florida Prep with 13 points in that loss to Miami Christian.
“This past season was a great one, I learned a lot from other players and coaches,” Small told Prep Hoops Florida. “I learned how to be a better leader, how to get others involved more and how to control the game. My role for next season is to be a scorer, an energetic guy and a leader.”
Small is in his second summer with Team Speights. He says he’s focused on improving his scoring at all three levels. Small called the Sweet 16 Session 1 in Atlanta his best tournament so far this year.
He started his basketball career at age 8. Small calls his ability to penetrate to the basketball, get others involved and finish his biggest strengths. He wants to improve his pull-up shot and ability to create space off the dribble.
Currently, Small has no offers, but he’s drawn interest from Georgia Southern, Georgia State, American and Louisiana Lafayette.
Earning a Second-Team All-State nomination for Class 2A by the FABC, Small says he felt disrespected. He plans to work even harder to prove the doubters wrong. I think with that chip on his shoulder that will help him carry Florida Prep once again. Look out for Small, a guy who is an ideal low Division I point man.
