Recruiting Report: Chase Barrs (2019)
Coming off a Class 8A state title, 2019 forward Chase Barrs is in for a bump in playing minutes for Sickles.
Starters Bryce Beamer and Marcus Cohen have graduated. 2018 guys Bryce Workman, Tahj Lalanne and Denari Garrett are the core right now.
For Barrs, a 6’8″, 175-pounder his stepping into an important role. He calls this season a big year for him.
He dislocated his kneecap just days before the state tournament in Lakeland. He focused on rebuilding his strength and getting better.
“From states, I learned that you have to take each game one step at a time and you have to stay focused and not overlook any team you play,” Barrs told Prep Hoops Florida. “Every day we went hard in practice because we knew where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do, so we just had to keep pushing.”
Barrs says his ability to produce on both ends of the floor has grown the most over the last year.
He’s focused on increasing his strength in his upper body, gaining weight, improving his shot and increasing his overall play this summer. He’s running with Team CP25 for the first time this summer.
At age 4 is when Barrs started his basketball life. He credits his dad, a former basketball coach at Balke for helping develop his game.
Barrs calls his ability to see the floor, pass, attack the basket, defend and block shots his biggest strengths. He’s aiming to improve his jump shot.
No offers have come yet for him, but FGCU is showing interest.
A rising junior, Barrs is very lengthy and smart around the rim. He uses his long arms and jumping ability to rebound and block shots down low. He is learning from one of the top big men in the state in Workman. Sickles is bound to make another run and Barrs will be a huge piece of the puzzle as a scorer and key defender.
