Prospect Spotlight: Teron Haywood (2021)
This rising freshman has a chance to make a splash early at Andrew Jackson High in Jacksonville if he continues to play this well.
Teron Haywood is another guard for the Jax-Gamechangers AAU squad who can flat out fly through defenses. He’s a playmaker for others—loves to drive and dish to his big men for easy assists. In the game I saw him play at Gainesville’s Sunshine Games, he showed a great ability to see the empty gaps, penetrate through the lane and draw enough attention to create scoring for someone else.
That happened when the defense was in a 2-3 zone. When they switched to man-defense, he was nearly unguardable. Haywood was able to skate past defenders and finish at the rack over bigs who nearly had three or four inches on him.
On defense, he remained stout. His quickness allowed him to stay in-front of the ball while they tried to get to the paint. Was even able to muster a couple steals when he kept his hands active.
As a whole, quickness, scoring/assisting through contact and cracking seams with the pass were his biggest positives. The next step is making a presence in the weight room, honing-in on his dribbling, and continuing to elevate his studies.
If Haywood can improve summer after summer in these areas, he’ll have a great time choosing a college that’ll help him grow in 2021.
