Prospect Spotlight: Shawn Esajas (2019)
At Hudson, this past season 2019 guard Shawn Esajas took over a key role as the team’s point guard.
The 6’2″, 180-pounder averaged 11.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals for the Cobras (16-11). He called his sophomore campaign a great learning experience.
“I would say my leadership grew the most this year and attacking the basket,” Esajas told Prep Hoops Florida. “Next year, I have a big role here to lead the team and distribute the ball and score when necessary.”
Esajas is spending his first year with the Tampa BayHawks under head coach Byron Lane-Batchelor.
He says he’s been in the gym every day putting in work. He’s seen his jump shot improve this summer so far.
Esajas called his ability to attack the rim, beat defenders off the dribble and set up his teammates his three biggest strengths. He’s aiming to improve his 3-point shot and his overall defense.
No offers or interest have come for the rising junior, but Esajas has proven he can play at a high level on varsity. He’s impressed with the BayHawks this summer on the Powerade Circuit and with expanded responsibility set for next season at Hudson that will help his progression. Keep his name on your mind.
