Prospect Spotlight: Rodney Lubin (2018)
Every coach in the country should aspire for a player who exudes the passion Rodney Lubin does.
After what seemed like every play in their TNBA game at the AAU Memorial Classic at Disney, Lubin was seen either pumping his fists, clapping someone else’s hands, yelling in excitement or a combination of all three.
He was most effective when hitting the midrange jumpshot. When he would leave his pivot foot after catching a pass, the Apopka senior knew how to make the most of one dribble to create space and rise over defenders. He also has a solid stroke from beyond-the-arc and can get to the rack when the gaps are open. Definitely has a strong frame—type of player to absorb contact, well.
Lubin’s dribbling is above-par. He did a great job of making his ball-handling purposeful—never drove into traps or pounded the ball into the hardwood out of indecisiveness. Lubin commanded the ball when it was in his hands.
He appears to have a strong IQ for the game. Lubin always looked like he was thinking about the moment on hand, but he wouldn’t force anything. He said this trait is going to help him when it’s time to become a senior leader in the fall.
Lubin expressed small interest by a couple of schools, but said it’s too early to get hype about it. His immediate focus is to keep growing his IQ, strengthening his defense, becoming a major voice in the locker room and working to fulfill his role to the best of his ability.
