Prospect Spotlight: Nick Baskin (2018)
Effort. That’s the one word which stood out the most about rising senior Nick Baskin.
This is a guy who makes ALL the hustle plays. Whether it be defending, blocking shots or swiping for steals in the paint, Baskin makes it a point to deliver.
In a recent Gainesville summer league game, the biggest facet of his game that I noticed was how well he absorbed contact while piercing through the lane for a bucket. Credit his dual-sport mentality. Baskin plays quarterback and safety for the the St. Francis Wolves, as well.
Speaking to him after the game, his top goals for the summer include conditioning, finishing at the rim, and overall shooting mechanics. Baskin has a high motor, but strengthening his endurance would only make him much more of a factor, on-court.
He knows how to push the break in-transition, find the open man and flat-out attack on both sides of the ball.
At the moment, Stetson and Valdosta State have shown a bit of interest. Baskin aims to become even more of a person who can finish through contact to build his clout.
Although, nothing comes before becoming a pillar for his team.
“I just want to be a leader,” Baskin said. “I just want to go out there, play hard, and lead this team to a state championship.”
