Prospect Spotlight: Jimmy Johnson (2018)
If you want effort, Jimmy Johnson won’t ever give you half of it.
Had a chance to see Jimmy for the first time at last month’s “Sunshine Games” in Gainesville. He plays for the Florida Splash AAU organization. Johnson takes what the defense gives him and really capitalizes off of it. If they give him a bit of space, he has the ability to dart past—even while holding a little of baby weight. If the D sags off, he can bust a three from the wing, easily.
But, where he shines is vocally, visually. He’s a leader at heart, a guy who won’t stop talking on defense, and offense, until his team gets the W.
“I don’t like losing, I like to win. I like to keep my teammates in it,” Johnson said. “I’m energy, and I need their energy to keep me up.”
The Eastside Ram aspires to grow his level endurance and wants to be quicker in-transition entering the 2017 campaign. He said running stadiums every weekend has helped with the progress, and he doesn’t intend to quit.
After going through a couple bumps and bruises in his earlier years, Johnson now sees basketball as something greater than JUST a sport.
“The game means ten times more to me, now,” he smiled. “I feel like I can do something with it. I’m taking it really seriously.”
Johnson believes with hard work and a commitment to growing defensively over the summer, his dream can definitely come true.
