Prospect Spotlight: Donald Mack (2019)
Mack is one reserved Eastside Ram. But on the court, his hunger shines through. The rising junior remembers the toils of last season, although he gets the sense that it’s time to level up.
“I think we’re better this year. I think this year, we might go to States, and win it all,” Mack said confidently. “My team has championship goals.”
If the team can defend the way Mack does, they have a shot. He plays the perimeter extremely well, always poking at the ball, getting ball-handlers riled. He knows how to defend entirely without fouling. The last time I saw him play this summer, he did a great job of never getting behind his man when they tried to attack the rim.
Away from the defensive side, Mack has a solid mid-range jumper and can give you a three-point percentage that’s enough to work with.
From a leadership standpoint, Mack feels it isn’t his time yet. He’s using this year to take notes from the seniors who’ll be leading the charge. He believes following their lead will be good to do, so that those tips and tricks will get passed along to help create an even stronger 2018 squad.
But for now, Mack is taking the summer to grow his defense even stronger and driving to the bucket, more. As he hones-in on those skills, look to see him become a solid threat for the Rams by time October rolls in.
