Prospect Spotlight: Chase Moore (2019)
Out of all the scorers seen at the Sunshine Games, Chase Moore led the path.
Moore notched 24 points for the Florida Splash in a game which came down to the final shot. Half of them coming from long-range, the other 12 via driving-to-the-cup and sometimes putting up his own missed shot.
Watching the game, I could tell that the three-ball is the first option going off in his mind, but he double-checked himself as defenders crowded him beyond-the-arc. Once they got close enough, Moore was able to weave around them and fight through traffic for the finish.
I was really impressed by how active he was on the glass after a missed shot. No matter the size of the post players surrounding him, Moore fought for the chance to pull down the rebound.
Standing at 6’2”, long-legged, Moore has the potential to be a problem when it comes to defending in-transition. He has a solid stride, covers a lot of ground and can either dish it for the assist, change directions or stop-and-pop for the trey.
This summer, Moore aims to become a solid playmaker who adds great ball-handling skills to the arsenal. He also will commit to penetrating the paint more while leading the fast-break. Growing to be a leader-by-action is one of the highest points on his list. Look for more to become a staple for the Newberry offense come November.
