Prospect Spotlight: Chance Jackson (2018)
2018 forward Chance Jackson is moving over to Plant for his senior season.
The 6’6″, 195-pounder called it a no-brainer to make the move from Cambridge Christian to Plant when Joe Willis was hired there earlier this off-season.
“I’m excited to be at Plant where I want to be a leader going forward as a senior,” Jackson told Prep Hoops Florida. “When I saw coach Willis got hired at Plant, it was a no-brainer for me as he has continually proven to get guys to the next level playing basketball, he also has a good record of winning basketball games.”
Jackson called his junior season fun playing for head coach Teddy Dupay at Cambridge, a guy who he trains with regularly.
“The part of my game that grew the most was definitely my confidence for sure,” he said. “Being that he [Dupay] was one of the best shooters ever and me being a shooter he was always confident I would knock it down. My focus right now is getting in the gym every day, getting a lot of shots up and hitting the weight room hard.”
This summer, he is running with coach Dayne Maasdorp at Impact Elite. Jackson called him a great coach and someone who is the nicest and genuine guys you’ll ever meet.
Starting his basketball life at age 8, he pointed to his shooting as his biggest asset. He’s aiming to improve his shot off the dribble, ballhandling and defense.
Jackson has trained with Dupay and Sean Hayes, the Tampa Titans director. He says they’ve made him a better basketball player overall.
“What I really like is that they are shaping me as a man and are super tough on me because they know I want to play Division I basketball,” he said.
He also trains with Akii Dean here in the Tampa area.
With no offers or any real interest just yet, Jackson is hoping to show off his improvements this season at his new stomping grounds. Everyone knows he can drain a 3, but his overall game has to get better. That’s what he is hoping to showcase as a senior.
