Prospect Spotlight: Calvin Freeman (2018)
If you’re looking for a guy who prides himself of defense, Calvin Freeman is your man.
This rising senior is 6’4”, a stocky 190-pounds and could Moss rebounds over most with ease. In a recent Gainesville summer league game, I saw his ability to move defenders out of his way to attack the glass for put-backs, as well as box-out and get in great position for defensive board.
While he recognizes his height may translate better in a guard position at the college level, Freeman urges to be a versatile, two-way player.
Although, rebounding does seem to be a niche.
“I’m just hungry for it. That’s what I love doing,” Freeman said.
The St. Francis Wolf has strengths that lie in ball-handling and passing, as well. On a few occasions, Freeman ran the fast-break after snagging a board and proceeded to score. He was on the front end of a few assists, too—a testament to his court-vision.
Freeman’s main goal is to play hard every day and night on the floor, look to get more teammates involved, and grow into the leader he’s been dreaming about. If this can happen, look out for Freeman and the Wolves to be a threat to anyone in their way come October.
