Coming Back Home: Rechon Black
The North Carolina high school hoops world had quite the news yesterday as it was announced UNC commit Rechon Black, will enroll at 3-A NCHSAA power Cox Mill High School. The defending NCHSAA 3-A state champs already feature state player of the year Wendell Moore, a 6-foot-5 wing who is ranked as the #1 prospect in the 2019 PrepHoopsNC class.
Black spent the past season at Montverde Academy in Florida playing a national schedule and going head-to-head with some of the best players in the country. He was ranked as the #2 prospect in PrepHoopsNC’s 2018 rankings before he transferred to Florida and will now certainly be in the mix as the top senior prospect in the class.
Cox Mill High School won the 3-A state tournament this past season behind the play of Wendell Moore and a strong group of seniors. The Chargers will return Moore and Caleb Stone-Carrawell, the son of former Duke standout Chris Carrawell. Moore has scholarship offers from North Carolina, Duke, Maryland among others.
With the move to Cox Mill High School, Black will be back in the town of Concord where he was raised and was a star at Concord High School his sophomore season before leaving for the David Boyle coached Montverde Academy. This move also puts Cox Mill High School, coached by Jody Barbee in the talks for repeating as the 3-A classification champion. Barbee on Black returning to Concord but this time as a Charger, “He is a great kid.”
