Gerard Mungo | 6’1 G | Patterson/Team Thrill | #48 overall
Mungo is a tough guard that embraces physicality. His biggest strength is taking the ball to the basket whether it’s in transition or taking his man off the dribble in the halfcourt. With that being said, Mungo can also take control of a team in the halfcourt and initiate sets. Patterson is a team that tends to use a lot of clock when they aren’t in transition, so Mungo has the responsibility of ensuring execution. The 6’1 guard does a good job getting after it defensively with active hands.
Kevon Brown | 6’2 G | McDonogh/Team Thrill | #50 overall
Brown is a defensive-minded guard who makes his impact felt by making life hard for the opposing team’s best perimeter player. Plays downhill in transition with the ball. Brown’s overall offensive game can still use some improvement, but he has good basketball IQ and makes good decisions that helps him be effective.
Jalen Rucker | 5’11 G | Gilman/Team Melo | #67 overall
Rucker is a smaller guard, but he plays like he’s 6’5. He’s very crafty with his array of dribble combinations and his passing, but when Rucker has the mindset to score, he can get going quickly in that sense as well. The 2019 guard plays with a chip on his shoulder at all times and it shows in his intensity on both ends. As he continues to develop, Rucker can make a massive jump in the next rankings, especially if he helps Gilman to at least an average record after struggling last season.
TJ Thomas | 6’2 G | Patterson/Team BBC | #72 overall
Thomas will spearhead the backcourt alongside Mungo this season for Patterson as they try to defend their 2A state title. The 6’2 guard looks to play off the dribble especially in pick-and-roll sets. Mungo is the guy who looks to go to the rim relentlessly, while Thomas is more of the jump shooter. He does a nice job of passing up a good shot to get one of his teammates a great shot.
