Prospect Spotlight: Desmond Davis (2018)
Desmond Davis is a guy you want to have on the roster when it comes to sheer intensity.
He’s forever hustling, diving for loose balls, attacking the glass for rebounds and playing with a scrappy mindset.
“I’m always in you,” Davis said when asked how to describe his defending style.
In the last tournament I seen Davis play in, April’s E1T1 Invitational, his ability to move without the ball and get to open spots stood out the most. Davis isn’t the type of player to stand around, waiting for plays to create themselves.
We spoke about his top three areas of his game, which consisted of rebounding, defending and shooting. Davis has been playing this game since the age of six, and has always had great leaping ability since then.
Watching him in April, I could tell he has a nose for the ball when it’s in the air—as well as springs in his calves. When it comes to shooting, his wiry, 6’2” frame can create space off-the-dribble for jumpers when need be.
When it comes to areas he wants to develop this summer, ball-handling was atop the list. Davis aspires to be a guy who can help out his point guard with running the offense if he gets in foul trouble.
The Eastside rising-senior voiced he’s working on being more of an assister—one who constantly keeps his head up in search for the open man. Keeping his high-energy level up for 32 minutes something on his mind, as well.
Davis feels that if he continues to stay in the weight room, work on his skill set and keep the “A” & “B” class grades flowing, the next level could be in his future.
