Prospect spotlight: Bryce Sloan(2018)
Bryce Sloan, 6’4” 180 pound point guard from Lincoln High School has drawn interest over the winter and spring from several Division I and II schools from the Pacific Northwest to Midwest and South schools. Sloan continues to work hard on his game putting in extensive work with key individuals throughout the Portland area. Although he plays the guard position on offensive he is often called upon to guard any of the five positions defensively. He is a skilled offensive threat that faces the toughest defensive player(s) and sometimes had to handle double and triple teams throughout the season.
A two time all-PIL performer, Sloan put up some of the better numbers around the state during his junior year recording 20.2 points per game (#10 in 6A), 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists (#9), 3.4 steals (#4) all while shoot 50.2% from the field, 50.4% 3-point FG (#2) and 85.2% from the FT line (#7). Sloan lead his team in points, assists, steals, 3-pointers made and percentage, FG made, FT attempted, made and percentage. He was voted team captain and MVP by his teammates.
After watching Bryce’s performance against West Linn in the second round, Prep Hoops Oregon wrote “first time seeing 2018 guard Bryce Sloan, poised kid who does a little bit of everything, he is one to follow this offseason.” Left Coast Recruiting wrote about Bryce, “there isn’t a shot that Sloan doesn’t like, he can fill it up in bunches” after they attended the Primetime Top 40 Showcase. During the spring and summer, Sloan will continue to play for Clutch Players. They will be playing a very competitive schedule starting with April and May tournaments in Portland, Bellevue, Houston, Boise, Spokane, and then July tournaments in Bellevue, Anaheim and Las Vegas. Sloan spends countless hours in the gym crafting his ball handling and shooting skills, in the weight room working on his core and overall strength and in the classroom watching film. All along Sloan excels in the classroom where he maintains a 3.6 GPA.
After attending the Scoutsfocus Top 100 Invite-Only Camp in Virginia last summer, Scoutsfocus wrote, “Bryce Sloan is a very tough combo guard with good size (shooting with a balanced skill set). He can shoot from all over and has a great feel for the game. He sees the floor well and has the ability to drive and finish. He is a true playmaker with a nice mid range game and defends well too. He truly makes kids around him better and has a nose for winning.”
Sloan is excited about playing this spring and summer with the same teammates that he has played with since the 5th grade. His loyalty, work ethic and passion for the game are contagious and he looks forward to a fun basketball season coupled with a recruiting process that will hopefully provide him with a lot of options. Sloan would like to major in Business Management. Sloan stated, “I have been very fortunate to have a lot of good influences in my life starting with my parents, teachers, coaches, family and friends. Their support means a lot to me that coupled with my love of the game helps fuel my fire to succeed.”
Sloan also talked about next year’s high school season, and being able to play with the same group of kids he has grown up with since middle school; Sloan said “the majority of us have played together on competitive teams since we were in middle school.” After beating Lake Oswego in the first round of last year’s state tournament and taking West Linn down to the wire, Lincoln High School’s outlook for the 2017/2018 season should include a deep run into the 6A State Tournament with all of their primary players returning from last year’s squad. “I can’t wait to show the people who continue to doubt us, how good a team can be when they play together as teammates.”
Amongst his peers, Sloan is not considered a sleeper, better yet he is considered one of the best guards in the Pacific Northwest and should be considered a Top 5 2018 prospect in Oregon, just look at his numbers he produced this past year.
