Oregon Grassroots Preview: Team Flight 17U
When it comes to AAU programs in Oregon, most of the best options for players exist Salem north. That has changed a little bit this year as Team Flight out of Eugene has put together a nice collection of players from throughout southern Oregon and is already proving itself to be a force this season on the spring tournament circuit. We caught up with program director Fred Banks to get a preview of Team Flight.
Flight is led by a trio of 2018 players who all earned all league honors in the Southern Oregon Conference. Jay Elmore a 6’1 combo guard from South Eugene who have averaged nearly 20 points a game during the high school season has lead the way thus far. “Jay is one of the more underrated guards in the state, he can really score and makes his teammates better.”
6’5 wing Kiefer Edwards from Crater High School is an explosive athlete who routinely finishes above the rim. He also possesses the length to be a disruptive factor on the defensive end of the floor. “Kiefer gives us a level of athleticism that we haven’t had for a couple of years.”
Kaison Faust, a 6’1 wing is another elite athlete who had a great junior season at North Medford. A physical slasher who rebounds well for his size, as Faust continues to improve his offensive skill set, more and more college coaches will take notice.
A prospect that is garnering attention from college coaches and scouts is 6’8 2019 post Dominic Mcgarvey from Sheldon High School. Mcgarvey spent most of the high school season on the jv team, but has shown flashes of developing in to a college level post thus far on the circuit. “Dom has really played well against some quality big guys this spring. His confidence level is skyrocketing and he’s turning into a big time player.”
Other players on the Flight roster include Mason Vranes a sharp shooting 6’2 guard from Crater, Jaren Banks from Sheldon a D1 football prospect who brings that toughness to the backcourt, and Dylan Reichenberger an undersized but effective 6’5 post from Willamette High School.
Rounding out the roster are guards Bryson Breeze from Springfield, Seth Skeele from Willamette, Jace Krier from Marist, and Uta Mageo from Sheldon.
