Kings of the Court: Travis’ 2018 & 2019 standouts, Part II
Dowling Catholic 17s
Sam Ingoli, 6’4, 2018 (Dowling Catholic) – It was almost hard to evaluate Ingoli in the game I watched because he was simply so much better than the competition he was facing. Ingoli is one of the best in the class and continues to show plus-vision and passing ability coupled with size. He never rushes, but always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
Anthony Coppola, 6’3, 2018 (Dowling Catholic) – The forward showed some nice touch around the basket and played with high IQ.
Luke Kevan, 6’4, 2017 (Dowling Catholic) – Moved extremely well without the ball, slashing through gaps to create opportunities near the rim, where he finished with great touch.
John Waggoner, 6’5, 2018 (Dowling Catholic) – Waggoner was a vacuum, sucking up every rebound that came his way. He’s also a very adept passer, even in tight quarters. There was a number of times when he diagnosed double-teams quickly or made a tough interior pass after an offensive rebound. A high-IQ player.
Martin Brothers 17s
Jason Taylor, 6’11, 2018 (Rock Valley) – The big man uses his size and length very well to rebound in his area. He’s got a knack for sniffing out a rebound is going to land and finds himself there. He doesn’t just rely on his size, though, as he positions himself well to pull down boards.
Jordan Lake, 6’0, 2018 (Western Dubuque) – Lake exhibited a very nice shooting stroke and ability to find space along the arc. Multiple times teammates found him open for 3-pointers, which allowed him to show off a compact, efficient release that often found its mark.
Matt Mims, 6’0, 2018 (Cedar Rapids Xavier) – Another one of the Martin Brothers’ expert marksmen, Mims has an incredibly smooth stroke and few qualms about showing it off. He often was able to get his shot off in small windows to strong results.
Jackson Joens, 6’5, 2018 (Cedar Rapids Xavier) – Joens’ shooting form is without hiccup, allowing him to connect from distance consistently as it’s easily – and smartly – repeatable.
Luke Vaske, 6’0, 2018 (Norwalk) – Vaske always seems to be in control on the court, not only of himself but of the situation. He’s smart and crafty from the point guard position and makes his teammates better be consistently and effectively setting them up for good looks.
