Recruiting Report: Jakoby Lane-Harvey (2017)
Lima Perry 5’11” guard Jakoby Lane-Harvey (2017) wrapped up his high school career last month with a deep run into the tournament. Although Perry lost a tough game in the Division IV State Semifinal, Lane-Harvey was one of the most impressive performers on the court. It was one of many stellar performances in his high school days, but that won’t be the last chapter in his book.
According to his AAU coach, Brock Howe with the NWO Basketball Club, Lane-Harvey has an offer from Washington Academy (NC).
Along with Washington Academy, there are plenty others JUCOs interested: Owens, Louisburg (NC), Lansing (MI), Moberly (MO), and a Division III school, Manchester (IN).
“I’m not a picky person … As long as I have a good coach and my family is behind me,” Lane-Harvey said, when asked about what he’s looking for in a school.
From the program’s perspective, they’ll be adding a player who is especially effective from inside the arch. In Columbus, Harvey-Lane consistently caught in the high-post against a 2-3, made quick decisions with the ball, and was a part of scoring plays.
“I’d rather go inside than outside. I’m not much of an outside shooter. So most of our plays is for me to get to the basket, [rather] than the outside shot.”
Now, considering Lane-Harvey’s lack of height, this could raise questions. Naturally, we asked Lane-Harvey this very question. He responded, “I think I’ll be fine with my height under 6-foot. I think I’m quick enough and think I’m going to hit the weight room and get a lot stronger this summer. So that won’t be a problem inside.”
Lane-Harvey also possesses strong court vision. This includes finding crevices in the defense, where he attacks quickly and strongly to find the basket.
As far as improvements go, Lane-Harvey seems to be a dedicated worker and has a lot of areas on the task list.
“This upcoming off-season I’m just going to work out and stay focused on my game. I’m going to really focus on basketball and focus on my weaknesses … I think I should touch on my outside shot. And also my ball-handling. Then, the mental part of the game, making sure I’m making the right passes,” Lane-Harvey said.
Despite some of the question marks, Lane-Harvey is going to come into a program ready to work. It’s evident that he loves the game, as he lamented about not having any more AAU basketball while staying enthusiastic about working on his craft. He’s also a winner.
Lane-Harvey carries right around a 3.0 GPA and is expected to take the ACT again soon.
