Prospect Spotlight: Kaden Vaughn (2018)
If there was one word used to sum up Kaden Vaughn’s game, it’d be “sniper.”
Vaughn averaged 17 points per game and knocked down 122 3-pointers at a 42 percent clip for St. Charles, one of the top teams in Class AA this past season. He’s spending the AAU season playing with Minnesota Select Ellis.
Vaughn’s an elite shooter, but he’s looking to further develop his ability to create offense off the dribble this upcoming spring and summer. It doesn’t take long to figure out how deadly he is from the 3-point line, so naturally teams try to run him off his spots.
“I’ve been working this offseason trying to get better and AAU has helped me a lot,” said Vaughn. “It’s a different style of play. With our high school team, I don’t drive as much. I shoot a lot of threes. We do a lot of run and gun and we don’t play man defense. So in AAU it’s more of a slow-it-down and play man-to-man for us. I think it’s good for me. It can make me more difficult to defend”
Vaughn’s hoping to play college ball and has been in contact with a few schools to this point.
“I’ve talked to a couple schools, not many yet,” said Vaughn. “Most have just said they are keeping me on their radar. St. Mary’s is one and Central Wyoming came to the game between us and Pine Island and I caught the eye of one of their coaches as well.”
Vaughn is playing with Select Ellis, a team with kids from down south and up through the east metro area mostly.
“We’re a good team and we’ve got some talent,” said Vaughn. “We haven’t played together much so we have some things to figure out still with more practices but things have been going pretty well.”
