Prospect Spotlight: James Lee (2018)
2018 guard James Lee came down to Florida this past season from Maryland.
He made an impact right away for Vanguard, averaging a team-best 21.6 points per game along with 7.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 4.1 steals per game for the Panthers (18-4). Vanguard fell in the Class 2A region semifinal to eventual state runner-up Florida Prep.
Lee says his junior campaign taught him plenty.
“I learned how to control the game and figured out when the right time to attack the hoop,” Lee told Prep Hoops Florida. “I also learned how to get my teammates involved on and off the court.”
The 6’3″, 160-pounder says his jump shot improved the most this past season but he’s aiming to become more unpredictable as a senior. He pointed to his ability to get to the hoop, score and distribute the ball as his biggest strengths currently.
Lee will play his second summer for the D.C. Blue Devils.
“I’m looking forward to getting my name out there this summer and picking up as many offers as I can,” he said.
Starting his basketball life in the 3rd grade, he says his older brother Gary really got him into the game.
Lee participated in The Top Rank Showcase Orlando last month. He says it was a good way to ready himself for AAU season with good competition.
He earned his first offer from Southern Utah in late February. Lee also has drawn interest from Stetson.
Lee is establishing himself quickly in the state of Florida. Look for him to pick up where he left off from high school season. He should be able to draw plenty of more interest as he betters his game. Lee is a good fit for a low-major Division-I program.
