Prospect Spotlight: Damien Marquez (2017)
The unsigned point guard brings a lot to the table, including leadership skills, control of the floor, and a whole lot of scoring.
Damien, a 5’8 Lake Howell point guard who averaged 23 ppg and 8 apg is looking to turn some heads this summer in the AAU circuit. Watching him play you can’t help but be impressed by his immediate impact on the game, his jumpshot is smooth and his playmaking ability is also impressive. Marquez knows how to lead a team and get his teammates in their right position. As a senior Damien also averaged 4 rpg and 1.3 spg, so you know he’s not afraid to mix it up. Leading his Lake Howell team to their best record in 9 years (16-10) finishing their season in the district semis only after Damien came down with mono and could not play. Marquez racked up the accolades his senior year, winning class 8A district 5 player of the year, 8A SAC player of the year, nominated for the Dairy Farmers Florida player of the year and receiving 1st team all conference honors. Off the court, Damien loves to bowl, he even joined the bowling team at his school. His motivation is his grandfather who passed a couple years ago and always told him he had a gift for the game of basketball and dreamed of seeing him play at the next level. With his level of maturity, focus and love for the game, Damien is sure to gain attention from college coaches this summer.
