Joseph Russell breaks down his commitment to Oglethorpe
2017 guard Joseph Russell is headed to Oglethorpe.
The Titusville senior announced his commitment (via Twitter) to Division-III Oglethorpe as he’ll head to Atlanta, Ga. to play for head coach Philip Ponder this fall.
Russell averaged 17.2 points and 3.4 assists per game as a senior for Terriers. The 6’0, 170-pounder finished with 1,862 career varsity points.
Holding offers from Division-II Eckerd and Florida Tech and Division-III St. John Fisher says he felt the love from Oglethorpe early in the recruiting process.
“The coach took the time to recruit me and check on me daily like no other coach did so I love the relationship that we have built,” Russell told Prep Hoops Florida. “I feel like I can come in and work hard and get minutes right away.
“Also, they have exactly what I am looking for major wise (business) and are a private school with only 1,100 students enrolled. It was a perfect fit for me and not to mention I love being in the city of Atlanta.”
Russell also drew interest from West Point, Assumption College, and University of Charlotte Queens.
He says he absolutely loved his visit to Oglethorpe as the player introduced themselves right away and treated him like one of their own.
A Prep Hoops Top 250 alum, Russell flashed at last September’s event, showing he can play with the ball in and out of his hands and do damage. A very good teammate, Russell is unselfish but can score in bunches. I fully expect him to succeed at a high level at D-III Oglethorpe.
