Grassroots Preview: Louisville Magic (16u)
The AAU season is upon us here in Kentucky and around the country. With teams starting to roll out their rosters and events heating up, Prep Hoops Kentucky previews grassroots programs from around the Bluegrass.
The Louisville Magic compete on the adidas Gauntlet Gold Circuit and is one of the top programs in the country. Former players include D’Angelo Russell (Los Angeles Lakers), Quinton Snyder (Louisville), and Derek Willis (Kentucky).
This 16u roster is a talented one. It features some of the countries top prospects from the 2019 class.
LOUISVILLE MAGIC (16U) ROSTER
#1 Jalen Bridges, Fairmont Senior High School (WV) (6’6, Wing) – 2019
Bridges ranks as one of the top 5 2019’s in West Virginia. A knock down shooter and someone who can really score it at the wing position, Bridges will look to build on the hype he created last AAU season with the WV Wildcats.
#2 Stan Turnier, Louisville Trinity (6’3, Forward) – 2019
Turnier averaged just over 5 points per game for Trinity last season. As his game progresses and he becomes more experienced, Turnier will be a formidable player. When he was on the floor, the sophomore shot almost 60% from the field.
#3 Zyon Dobbs, Fairmont Senior (WV) (6’3, PG) – 2019
Dobbs is another top 2019 prospect in West Virginia and a top 100 player nationally. He averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists per game at Fairmont Senior, one of the top high school programs in the state.
#4 Mason Shifflett, Wesley Christian (6’4, Shooting Guard) – 2019
Shifflett holds an offer from Stetson University and interest from a number of other D-1 schools including Marshall. He was named to the NACA All-American team this past season.
#5 Oscar Tschiebwe, Mountain Mission (6’9, Forward) – 2019
Tschiebwe already holds offers from West Virginia and Virginia Tech and is a top 50 prospect nationally in the 2019 class.
#10 Denys Bachurin, Wesley Christian (6’8, Forward) – 2019
Bachurin is a nice forward who can do a little bit of everything. Solid shooter who can also finish well around the rim. He’s also got a knack for finding the open man when defenses collapse on him. Denys is from Ukraine and played in the 16u European championships.
#13 David Johnson, Louisville Trinity (6’5, Guard) – 2019
Johnson averaged 10.5 points per game and is capable of running both guard positions. He ranks near the top of Kentucky’s 2019 class and after a solid showing in Dallas last weekend, picked up offeres from Louisville, Xavier, and Cincinnati.
#14 Ahmed Mahmoud, Wesley Christian (6’6, Forward) – 2019
Mahmoud comes from Cairo, Egypt and plays the forward position for both Wesley Christian and the Louisville Magic.
#25 Isaiah Allen, Tates Creek (6’2, Guard) – 2019
Allen had a very impressive sophomore campaign at Tates Creek this season, averaging just under 17 points per game and shooting over 40% from the field.
#44 Isaiah Cozart, Madison Central (6’8, Forward) – 2019
Cozart is already messing around as a sophomore and breaking shot blocking records in Kentucky. His length and athleticism is D-1 good, and he’s getting some looks from a number of different programs. This season he helped lead Madison Central to the 11th Region tournament semi-finals, averaging 11.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
