The top performers from the 9A state semifinals
Wekiva and Osceola advanced after winning their respective Class 9A state semifinals on Friday.
The Mustangs held off South Miami with a 73-59 win while Osceola snuck past Wellington 52-50.
Here are the top performers from 9A state semifinals:
Trent Frazier (Wellington)
Frazier couldn’t do it all in the end for Wellington, but the 6’2″ senior guard tried to. He scored 32 of his team’s 50 points which included 5-of-9 from downtown and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. This kid is a pure talent.
Paul Reed (Wekiva)
The 6’9″ senior forward played a fine game with 28 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Reed was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw stripe and 8-of-11 from the field. He scored 14 points in the third quarter alone.
Zack Dawson (South Miami)
Dawson did his best to keep up with Reed with a 12-point third quarter output. The 6’4″ senior guard ended his high school career with a 26-point performance along with six rebounds and three assists.
Josh Marte (Osceola)
The sophomore point guard exploded in the second half to finish with a team-high 20 points. Marte connected on 7-of-13 shots from the floor including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He was the difference maker when the two sides were going back and forth in the fourth quarter.
Tevin Florent (Osceola)
Scoring 11 points in the first half, Florent saved his best for last. With three seconds left and the game tied at 50, the 6’6″ senior forward scored on a beautiful pass from Marte. Florent had 13 points and will look to have a more complete game on Saturday night against Wekiva.
Jeremy Johnson (Wekiva)
The next best thing for Wekiva was the 6’4″ junior forward. Johnson scored 12 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting from the field. He also had six rebounds and three assists.
Kaevon Taylor (South Miami)
Next to Dawson, this guy right here was helping out. Taylor, a 6’3″ senior guard added 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting on the day.
