Recruiting Report: JJ Reed (2018)
Paducah Tilghman High School’s junior shooting guard JJ Reed has had an exceptional season.
On the 2016-17 campaign, Reed is averaging 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game to lead his Blue Tornado club in both categories. He and Tilghman were runners-up in the 2nd District Tournament championship and just won an opening round contest in the 1st Region Tournament.
“We’re 20-10 so far on the season,” Reed said. “I’m the leading scorer and rebounder and leader in assists per game. I get my teammates involved, make sure everyone touches the ball and make good decisions on the court.”
With a game – or maybe games – still left to play this season and one remaining year of high school basketball following this one, Reed already carries a college offer from Samford and has been shown interest from Kent State, Northern Kentucky, Radford and West Virginia and makes it clear why more coaches should start to recognize his game:
“I am a leader in the classroom and on the court,” Reed stated.
Although he is having quite the junior season, the player is already looking ahead to how he can improve for his senior year.
“I just have to continue to be a strong leader,” Reed added. “I have to keep working hard in the gym during the off-season. I want to be more aggressive and work more on my ball handling. I feel as though I’m doing really well this season, but I want to be better and stronger. As a leader, I plan to push my teammates to be better and smarter players to be a better team.”
Reed and Paducah Tilgham return to action on Mon., March 6 in the 1st District Tournament semifinals against Mayfield.
