Prospect Spotlight: Eric Powell (2018)
Eric Powell is a rising junior combo guard out of Lafayette High School in Lexington, Ky. The flashy athlete plays with consistent energy on both ends of the court, gets his teammates involved and plays lockdown defense.
“I can handle the ball with both hands,” Powell said. “I have good range. I can penetrate to find the open man, or finish with either hand around the rim. I’m a good three-point shooter. I have improved my mid-range – and I have also improved my defense both on-ball and off-ball.”
Powell said he and his teammates had an up-and-down season, but he worked hard and gave his all.
“The team had an up-and-down year,” Powell stated. “We had some good showings against some top teams like Hargrave Academy and Scott County, but we got beat (in the) second round of Districts by Lexington Catholic. I had a pretty good season; I learned a lot and had good performances in multiple tournaments and made All-Tournament teams.”
In the classroom at the high school, Powell says he is a hard worker.
“I am a good student and had a 3.4 GPA last semester,” the student-athlete noted.
Although he hasn’t received any direct offers or been shown any interest yet, Powell says that college coaches and programs should start to reach out because his game is different from others.
I am coachable,” Powell added. “I can play and defend multiple positions. I am a hard worker and try to make others around me better. And I am willing do what it takes to win.”
