Prospect Spotlight: Ayinde Hikim (2018)
Ayinde Hikim emerged as one of the premier point guards in the DMV this season, and is poised to carry that momentum with him into the spring and summer. The explosive and reliable playmaker led Wilson to the DCIAA Championship, and did not take any shortcuts on his way to the top.
“I really look up to Westbrook,” said Hikim, who’s been playing basketball for all of his life. “I really like leading the team. Being a captain. Floor general. Also scoring the ball. Getting my team involved, and doing everything I can to get the W.”
Hikim is arguably the most explosive sub-six footer in the region. We’ve seen him dunk in games on numerous occasions, and his blend of quickness and skill is off the charts. Hikim put in countless hours in the offseason to polish his jump shot, and believes his hard work is paying off.
“I have to credit coach T. All summer we worked on my jump shot,” Hikim recalled. “He said I needed a jump shot. We got a shooting gun at Wilson, and we just got to work.”
Right now Hikim unbelievably has no scholarship offers, but admits he’s beginning to get some interest. Hikim also knows that he needs to continue to work on his shot, and all other aspects of his game including his defense.
“A lot of ppl may think I don’t work hard in the game,” said Hikim about one of his most underrated qualities. “That’s just because I work hard in practice so in the game it comes easy. Practice really is my game.”
What can a college coach recruiting Hikim expect him to bring to a program at the next level?
“Intensity. Hard Work. A Leader. Captain. Floor general. Just bring that effort and high intensity level.”
