Russellville and Monroe County squared off in the third quarterfinal game of the 4th Region Tournament on Wednesday night at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena. The Panthers played strong on both ends of the floor and limited the Falcons from ever getting into a rhythm.
Thanks to a stellar performance from Belmont signee Pedro Bradshaw, Russellville (21-11) beat Monroe County, 80-48, to advance to next Monday’s semifinal round, where it’ll face Clinton County.
- Most Valuable Player: Pedro Bradshaw, Russellville — The veteran ahtlete was one of the key leaders for the Panthers on Wednesday. The senior guard/forward scored 26 points to carry Russellville to a season-extending victory. Bradshaw played his style of game all throughout the contest and was a threat for Monroe County.
- Best Offensive Performance: Jaylyn McMurry, Russellville — McMurry put on an impressive offensive performance on Wednesday night. McMurry, a senior, was virtually unstoppable knocking down big-time shots on Wednesday. He scored 19 points to be one of Russellville’s leading scorers. McMurry’s scoring came in a variety of ways, including layups, free-throws and mid-range pull-up jumpers.
- Best Defensive Performance: Pedro Bradshaw, Russellville — As he is also known for his offensive game, Bradshaw also made his defensive presence felt all night long. The strong forward played tenacious defense and made many crucial steals while also blocking four shots.
- Best Rebounder: Jaylyn McMurry, Russellville — McMurry grabbed 14 rebounds in the game. He made a handful of crucial rebounds Wednesday that set up scoring opportunities on the opposite end of the court, as well as offensive boards that gave his team second chances.
- Best Coaching Decision/Strategy: Todd’s playcalling, Russellville — The best coaching decision or strategy of the game was Coach Phil Todd’s playcalling. Todd called the proper plays and used his jam-packed basketball mind to guide his talented team to a season-extending victory.
