Prep Hoops KY 5 Best: Bowling Green (77) vs. Franklin-Simpson (59) – 3/6/17
Bowling Green and Franklin-Simpson squared off in the first semifinal game of the 4th Region Tournament on Monday night at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena. The Purples played strong on both ends of the floor and limited the Wildcats from ever getting into a rhythm.
Thanks to a stellar performance from guards Zion Harmon and Deangelo Wilson, Bowling Green (31-2) beat Franklin-Simpson, 77-59, to advance to Tuesday’s championship match, where it’ll face Russellville.
- Most Valuable Player: Zion Harmon, Bowling Green — The young, but talented athlete was one of the key leaders for the Purples on Monday. The 8th grade grade guard scored 24 points to carry Bowling Green to a season-extending victory. Harmon played his style of game all throughout the contest and was a threat for Clinton County.
- Best Offensive Performance: Deangelo Wilson, Bowling Green — Wilson put on an impressive offensive performance on Monday night. Wilson, a senior, was virtually unstoppable knocking down big-time shots on Monday. He scored 22 points to be one of Bowling Green’s leading scorers. Wilson’s scoring came in a variety of ways, including layups, free-throws and mid-range pull-up jumpers.
- Best Defensive Performance: Ollie Eutsey, Franklin-Simpson — As he is also known for his offensive game, Eutsey also made his defensive presence felt all night long. The strong forward played tenacious defense and made many crucial steals while also blocking four shots.
- Best Rebounder: Terry Taylor, Bowling Green — Taylor grabbed 15 rebounds in the game. He made a handful of crucial rebounds Wednesday that set up scoring opportunities on the opposite end of the court, as well as offensive boards that gave his team second chances.
- Best Coaching Decision/Strategy: Sherrill’s playcalling, Bowling Green — The best coaching decision or strategy of the game was Coach D.G. Sherrill’s playcalling. Sherrill called the proper plays and used his jam-packed basketball mind to guide his talented team to their ninth Region title game in the last 10 years.
