Lance Erving breaks down state title win and more
Lance Erving has been celebrating his team’s Class 6A state title win since Leesburg won 57-53 over Mariner on Saturday.
The 2019 guard scored 20 points in both the semifinal win over Ribault and final win as the Yellow Jackets captured their third state championship in school history.
“We came a long way starting the year off,” Erving told Prep Hoops Florida. “Winning a state championship is big for me because it’s my first time and it was fun playing on the big stage.”
Erving averaged 13.1 points per game for the season and shot 55 percent from the field in the state tourney. I asked him about the crowds at states and this is what he had to say.
“I knew coming into the state final four that it was going to be a big crowd, so I just knew I had to stay locked in mentally and not let the crowd get to me,” he said.
In terms of his projections at the next level, Erving says no schools specifically showing interest him. However, he says he wants to be a leader on and off the court and be very vocal.
Erving plans to study engineering in college.
This summer, the 6’0″ sophomore guard will be playing with Thunder Struck in Gainesville.
2017 is just the start for Erving, a player on the rise in Florida who deserves much more attention across the country from college programs.
