High School Look Back: Jamison Summers (Clinton County)
Jamison Summers had quite the career as a member of the Clinton County High School boys’ basketball program. The four-year flashy guard worked hard and gave his all each and every season, transforming him into not only a great basketball player, but also a great person – which is the best part.
“Playing ball at Clinton County was a blessing,” Summers said. “Being surrounded by such a great group of boys and a great coaching staff only made things easier. It led to memories that will last a lifetime and shaped me into the man I am today.”
In his final season of prep hoops, Summers effectively contributed points wise while also guiding the Bulldogs in each outing. His leadership ability helped him and Clinton finish the 2016-17 campaign at 23-10 overall while making it all the way to the Region 4 Tournament semifinals.
“Senior season was as expected by most that never think the day would come that ball would be over,” Summers stated. “As far as our team, we had a great year. We went 23-10 on the year with a District (16) championship and made it to the semifinals in the 4th Region losing to Russellville, who had Mr. Basketball candidate Pedro Bradshaw. We also lost to Russellville in overtime in All-A Region.
“As far as myself, I racked up the All-A Tournament Team, the District Tournament Team, two Player of the Game awards in two Christmas Tournaments and All Region Team. My stats were okay this year averaging double digit points, leading in assists and a top rebounder and leading steals.”
With his playing days behind him, Summers says he will now focus on furthering his education.
“After high school, I plan on going to Eastern Kentucky University to continue my education,” noted Summers. “I probably won’t be playing ball, but I will miss it a lot.”
As he left a mark on the Clinton County boys’ basketball program, the athlete has a message for those still playing at the prep level:
“To all the players, it sounds cliche but the saying “time flies” is no joke,” Summers added. “Take advantage of every chance. Work on every aspect of your game. Take in every moment. Do what it takes to make your team better. And last, have fun cause it’s over before you know it.”
