2017 Top Available: Big Men (Part 2)
The high school season is over here in Florida, but plenty of talented players have yet to lock down the college program of their choosing.
Here are five more 2017 big men in the state that fall into that category (Full 2017 Rankings HERE).
Tevin Florent (Osceola)
The 6’6″ senior averaged 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds this season for the Class 9A champions. He scored 13 points in the semifinal win over Wellington and led his team in the final against Wekiva with 17 points. Florent is a double double machine and a player who is reliable all over the floor. With Rutgers and Bowling Green representing his top two offers, expect him to shine at the next level.
Kimar Edwards (Poinciana)
A tweener in lamen terms, Edwards is a big 6’4″ and can be an all-around player. He averaged 13.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a senior, both team highs for the Eagles. Stetson and Dayton State showed plenty of interest earlier this season. He will find a spot no doubt. Edwards is simply too good and too dedicated to the game not to.
Robert Gadson III (Alonso)
At 6’7″, Gadson is a rebound machine. He has a nice jumper and is a true team player. He looks for boards and getting his teammates involved. Once Gadson attacks more in the paint, he’ll be better off. He has the frame to make a move to the collegiate level and I think he would be solid.
Brett Haeffner (Pine Crest)
Him and his brother AJ transferred to Pine Crest from St. Andrews this past season. The 6’10” big man finished second on the Panthers squad with 11.1 points and first in rebounds with 6.8 per game. He has size and length and plays with smarts. Haeffner should earn a walk-on opportunity somewhere. Everyone can use a 6’10” big man with ball skills.
Desmond Bessent (Sickles)
The 6’8″ Bessent didn’t play basketball this season for the 8A champion Gryphons, but he has the ability to be a difference maker at the next level.
