The 2018 guard shined on Saturday night with a team-high 18 points as Admiral Farragut fell to Seffner Christian, 60-53 in the Class 4A-District 4 Final at Tampa Prep.
At 17-3, the Blue Jackets are set for a Thursday night region quarterfinal at First Academy. Junior wing Dre Fuller has been out with an injury for Admiral Farragut, but Dessesow says he believes his team can with him back. He wants his team to play their style of basketball.
“This season has been one of the best that Farragut has had in a very long time,” he said. “It is by far my best season statistically. We’re a persistent team and one loss isn’t going to stop the big picture which is states.”
Dessesow plays a confident style of basketball and that’s something he says he’s seen improve this season. The junior isn’t afraid to knock down big jumpers. He hit three 3’s including two in the fourth quarter as the Blue Jackets fought back.
“That was the “piece” that I was missing to put me over the edge,” Dessesow said about his confidence. “Being a small guard, it’s a must to be confident. I’m still looking to improve on hitting contested jumper consistently. If I can get that down then I know I’ll be a huge problem for the top guards in my class.”
At 6’0″, 158 lbs., he uses his elusiveness and pure speed to find open space on offense. Defensively, he plays a tough-nosed style of basketball.
He has no offers just yet, but interest is there. He says he can fit in at the next level because he can adapt to whatever a coach needs him to do at any time.
There is no reason Dessesow can’t be a factor at the next level. Even at his frame, he’s able to get the job done. He’ll need to continue to get stronger and that will help his value. Low Division-I and Division-II programs would make perfect sense for this 2018 prospect.
