While watching Lewis you instantly see the athleticism on both ends of the floor, what also impresses is his ability to control the offense, he can slow things down and get his teammates to their correct positions on the floor. Rahsaan not only has the ability to run an offense, he can also score for himself, as seen during a game in the MAIT last week where he dropped 22 points.
“We started off rough.” Lewis said of the start of their season. “I feel like that was because there were many new people, so we didn’t have the chemistry or know how to play with each other yet.” Since the rough start the Lakers have found their groove and have become a state title favorite again, “now we’ve been playing very well, and if we keep playing the way we are and continuing to get better and grow, we definitely are capable of accomplishing the goal every high-school athlete wants to accomplish.”
Lewis being a point guard told me he looks up to players like Lonzo Ball and De’Aaron Fox, reason being they know how to lead their team, can play fast in transition, and lock down on defense. He also looks up to Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving for their passion and willingness to do whatever it takes to win.
“In a college I look for a place where I can be me and it feels like home” said Lewis. “Somewhere I can continue to grow as a person and grow as a player and continue to learn while enjoying my college career while staying focused.”
Rahsaan said he has received interest from UNF, Maryland, and VMI.
Lewis is looking to improve on being more vocal and cutting down on turnovers, with the fast paced style the Lakers play, he understands that some turnovers will happen but he is looking to cut them as much as possible.
Rahsaan said of growing up with Ray Lewis as his father, “Growing up with him as my father of course has positives and negatives but I wouldn’t change a thing about it, he always says to just play your game trust yourself.” When it comes to what he learned about competition from his dad, Lewis says “it may give me an edge because of what he instilled in my mind to never let another man outwork you.”
You can’t help but to be impressed with the young man Lewis is when speaking to him, he is very grounded, strong minded, and humble. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of his High School career and seeing him be a great addition to whichever school he chooses.
