Continue ReadingWarren Central and Christian County squared off in a Region 4 vs. Region 2 matchup on Saturday night in the Wes Strader Schoolboy Classic at Bowling Green High School. In what would be a very intriguing high school basketball game, the Dragons and Colonels went back-and-forth all throughout the contest, but only one team could win.
Both clubs went at it from the ball was thrown up to the final buzzer, as numerous players had big outings, but one athlete from each side outdid the rest. Thanks to a stellar performance from Detorrrion Ware, Christian County used numerous runs to knock off a talented Warren Central club by a score of 62-53.
- Most Valuable Player: Detorrion Ware, Christian County — The strong forward was one of the Colonels’ main leaders on Saturday. The junior scored 18 points. It took Ware a little while to get into a rhythm, but once he did, he took control of the affair and helped lead the Colonels all throughout the night.
- Best Offensive Performance: Jaylen Sebree, Christian County — Sebree put on an impressive offensive performance on Saturday night. Sebree is physically gifted and was virtually unstoppable knocking down big-time shots on Saturday. He scored 17 points and helped his Colonels’ club lead by ten at 33-23 at halftime over Warren Central. Sebree’s scoring came in a variety of ways, including layups, free throws, mid-range pull-up jumpers and three-pointers.
- Best Defensive Performance: Skyelar Potter, Warren Central — Potter made his defensive presence felt all night long. The flashy guard played tenacious defense and made many crucial steals. He also scored 16 points to be one of the Dragons’ leading scorers.
- Best Rebounder: Jaylen Sebree, Christian County — Sebree grabbed 11 rebounds in the game. He made a handful of crucial rebounds Saturday that set up scoring opportunities on the opposite end of the court, as well as offensive boards that gave his team second chances.
- Best Coaching Decision/Strategy: Smith‘s playcalling, Christian County — The best coaching decision or strategy of the game was Coach Frankie Smith’s playcalling all throughout the game. From the time the ball was thrown up to the final buzzer, Smith used his jam-packed basketball mind and guided the Colonels to their fourth-straight victory.
