The Kings (25-2, 14-0) are set to play in the Class 3A-District 6 final on Friday night against First Baptist. Tracey is averaging 10.7 points per game, ranking third on the team behind juniors Caleb Catto and Jacob Tracey.
Jacob transferred over to Southwest Florida Christian this summer to play with Catto and his younger brother. Jadrian appeared in 11 games for the Kings as an 8th grader and now has benefited with a larger role and 13 double digit games.
He scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and recorded five steals and four assists in a district semifinal win over Moore Haven on Tuesday night.
“It’s been a great season, we’ve come a long way. Everybody has come a long way and we are just trying to get better,” Tracey said. “One of my goals is to get better and make everyone else around me better. To be a role model for all the little kids and to show them that hard works pays off and to trust the process.
“For my high school team, the goal is to get better at all things we do and to make a state run for our school and community.”
Tracey is not your typical freshman at 6’5″, 180 lbs. His game has expanded this season and he’s only getting stronger and more confident. These are the things he wants to improve and what he thinks already has gotten better in his game.
“For my game personally I want to handle the ball better in the open court and to see the whole court,” he said. “Also to get stronger and more physical.
“By being the younger player on the floor I have learned to play my role and let the game come to me. I’ve gotten better mentally by not letting little things get to me on the court. My defense has come a long way just by playing with older guys who are more physical, more stronger and quicker than me. Also learned not to waste my dribbles.”
His older brother Jacob played at Riverdale his sophomore year and Mariner as a freshman. He’s averaging 13.5 points per game for Southwest Florida Christian as a junior. Jadrian called playing with his brother great.
“I also get to play with Caleb Catto a junior guard and Cayden Baker, a freshman forward who I have played with my whole life. They push me to become better,” Tracey said. “Jacob reminds me that nothing comes easy and I have to work. He gets on me like no one else will, but also in a loving way. Jacob and I work out a lot and he works me hard and never takes it easy.”
Middle school coach Chris Daugherty is someone else that Tracey looks up to.
“Coach Daugherty is like my father. He reminds me to stay humble, work hard and to thank God for everything,” he said.
Tracey says thinks he plays best when he is playing the wing. He also feels comfortable running the point if he has to.
“I play the wing best because I’m a good slasher and can create for my teammates by getting to the basket and dishing to them,” he said.
Jadrian is flourishing at a strong basketball program that has emerged here as of late. Playing with Catto and his brother Jacob has helped him grow up quickly. Jacob is someone we know very well, but Jadrian is coming up and he needs to be talked about. The 2020 prospect is not done growing and either is his game.
