The 6’5″, 195-pound senior wing is averaging 19 points, 7.0 rebounds and two assists per game for Holy Trinity (20-3) this season. Kaplan has three games over 30 points this season including a high of 35 against West Orange, where he scored 19 points in the first quarter alone.
On his commitment:
“I really like the environment up in Spartanburg,” Kaplan said. “It felt like a family and I really liked the coaching staff and the players.”
Here’s how he sees himself fitting in at the next level.
“As a 6-5 wing, I can score from the 3-point line as well as finish at the basket. I create matchup problems when guarded by either shorter guards or taller big men. I certainly feel I can step right into some good minutes right away.”
With two straight appearances in the state tournament, Kaplan says his team’s goal is to get back to Lakeland for a third year and win it all. He’s also looking to get better at these things.
“Our mindset is to take it one game at a time and focus on playing hard defense,” he said. “I’m looking to improve my ball handling and defensive skills as well as adding muscle weight to my body before I go to college.”
Kaplan also held offers from Palm Beach Atlantic, Southeastern, Eastern Florida State and Iowa Central. Other interest came from Eastern Illinois, Columbia, Penn, Lincoln Memorial, other Division-II and Division-III schools as well.
Lengthy and athletic, Kaplan will fit right in at USC Upstate. The Atlantic Sun is a very competitive conference and one that he can come into and bring a lot to the program. Kaplan found a good fit and he should be able to do plenty there.
