MVP: Michael Devoe (Oak Ridge)
Devoe was a man among boys tonight, getting to the basket at will. Boone attempted to double him, but he would just find the open man with ease or overpower the defenders on his way to the rim and free-throw line. He finished the contest with 24 points.
Best aspect of the environment: The crowd
This was a hyped up matchup and it lived up to expectations, the crowd was into it all night, from the band all the way to the visitors section, the gym was electric.
Best offensive performance: Michael Devoe (Oak Ridge)
The Junior led the game in scoring and was the go-to guy down the stretch for his team in crunch time.
Best defensive performance: Niven Glover (Oak Ridge)
The explosive Sophomore stepped it up on defense tonight, he stayed in front of his man and protected the paint when he found himself there.
Best guy off the bench: Emanuel Adedoyin (Oak Ridge)
Adedoyin had a solid showing off the bench, giving his team strong minutes and filling some needs.
Best intangibles: Onardo Bent (Oak Ridge)
Bent does what is asked of him, he doesn’t try to do too much but he can get buckets when needed.
Best under-the-radar performance: Rob Perry (Oak Ridge)
Perry always seems to hit a big shot for the Pioneers, he made some smart plays, including a nice pass to Glover on 2 on 1 fast-break that lead to an easy lay in.
Best underclassmen: Niven Glover (Oak Ridge)
Niven did not need a highlight play tonight to make an impact, his defense was terrific and had some huge buckets down the stretch. Glover, a sophomore is going to improve a lot over the next couple of years and that is a scary thought.
Best rebounder: Kaleb Coleman (Oak Ridge)
The big man hits the boards hard, not afraid to go inside and get physical, I really like his game.
Best story to watch moving forward: Oak Ridge and Boone
With the regular season out of the way for both teams, the real fun begins next week. District tournaments begin and both of these teams have a chance to make some noise, I am looking forward to seeing who will make it to Lakeland here.
