Senior Derek Webster led the Crusaders (19-5) with a game-high 28 points. Senior Ja’Shaun Dias finished with a team-best 12 points for the Red Devils (13-9)
Here are the top 10 performers from this matchup.
MVP: Derek Webster (Seffner Christian)
Derek Webster was everywhere tonight for Seffner Christian. He had 11 points in the opening quarter, tracking down rebounds and putting in his full effort. Webster finished with 28 points and did just about it all inside for his group.
Best offensive performance: Ja’Shaun Dias (Kathleen)
Benched for the first half, senior forward Ja’Shaun Dias didn’t take long to bring Kathleen back into the game. He scored 10 points in the third quarter including the first basket. Dias helped the Red Devils trim the deficit to just 13 through 24 minutes. He had a highlight reel dunk on a fast break that got the crowd’s attention.
Best defensive performance: Bryson Grasse (Seffner Christian)
Scoring 10 points in this one, senior forward Bryson Grasse showed up defensively time and time again. He had four blocks that I could remember and could have easily ended this game with more. Grasse paced the defense and played with a lock down mentality all night.
Best intangibles: Donald Jorden (Seffner Christian)
One of three Crusaders with 10 points, Donald Jorden didn’t back down the entire night. He pushed the ball to the basket when he needed to and also made his jumpers. At 6’6″, Jorden is full of length.
Best under-the-radar performance: Brendan Gant (Kathleen)
A highly recruited sophomore safety, Brendan Gant is still doing his best on the court. He recorded eight points to finish second on the team in scoring. He quietly made plays for the Red Devils in key situations.
Best catch and shoot guy: Reid Walker (Seffner Christian)
Senior forward Reid Walker loves to hit jumpers, especially behind the 3-point line. Tonight he had 10 points including two second quarter 3-pointers. Walker has ridiculous range and he’ll bring that to the next level next fall.
Best worker: C.J. Williams (Kathleen)
Battling an ankle injury, senior forward C.J. Williams had two quick fouls which kept him out of the game in the first half. He scored six points up against a tough assignment in Webster. Williams will bounce back and if he continues to work, he’ll get to where he wants to be.
Best jersey: Kathleen
The Red Devils brought their red jersey’s that displayed the words “The Leen” across the middle. It was very creative and I think more high school teams will continue this trend.
Best energy: Rod Boggan (Kathleen)
Making the move over from Lake Gibson this season, Rod Boggan has been a huge lift to Kathleen’s offense. Boggan only had five points in this game, but you can see the potential there. The junior has a quick first step and once he becomes more confident in his jumper, he’ll be solid.
Best athlete: Derek Webster (Seffner Christian)
Webster had a dunk in the fourth quarter, some fancy moves down low and simply the best game I’ve seen him play all season. His top moment came at the halftime buzzer when he sunk nearly a full court jumper before time expired ().
