Senior Chaundee Brown put on a show with a game-high 29 points for the Royals (22-1) while Cory Kaplan led the Tigers (19-5) with 16 points of his own.
Here are the top 10 performers from this matchup.
MVP: Chaundee Brown (First Academy)
Smooth, smart, speedy, those are just some of Chaundee Brown’s attributes. The First Academy senior has verbally committed to Wake Forest and he showed throughout why that is the case. He had 18 points at the break to finish with 29 points and 10 rebounds. The 6’5” guard hit just about everything from outside and when he attacked, no one could really slow him down.
Best offensive performance: Cory Kaplan (Holy Trinity)
Cory Kaplan made some tough shots against a very talented First Academy defensive unit. Kaplan ended up with a team-best 16 points including 10 in the first half. The USC Upstate verbal commit is a hard worker.
Best defensive performance: Malik William (First Academy)
The 6’8” senior forward had four points, 15 rebounds, 11 blocks and eight assists in this game. William’s shots weren’t falling, but he made up for it with an all-around performance on the other end of the ball.
Best intangibles: Jashaun Corbin (Holy Trinity)
After scoring five points in the opening quarter it looked like Jashaun Corbin was set for a huge night. He added 11 points in total. The guard is always flying around the court. A high commodity in the football world, he earned offers from FSU and Utah most recently. Corbin is on track for a big collegiate career.
Best under-the-radar performance: Elijah Jordan (First Academy)
The 6’0” senior guard had six points including a powering dunk in the fourth quarter. Jordan gave the Royals a ton of life at times, especially late when they were trying to put Holy Trinity away.
Best catch and shoot guy: Greg Summers (First Academy)
With two points at the half, senior guard Greg Summers was awfully quiet. He exploded in the third quarter with 13 points which included two 3’s right in front of his own bench. At 6’3”, Summers always looks to get his teammates involved first, but when he is open, he can knock down shots well. He did that tonight.
Best worker: Brandon Schwab (Holy Trinity)
I first saw Brandon Schwab on the AAU circuit this past summer with Ball4Lyfe. I noticed how gritty and tough the 2018 point guard was. He showed off his relentlessness once again finishing with four points. His ability to lead the offense with ease is impressive.
Best attacker: Seth Coleman (Holy Trinity)
Seth Coleman is on the come up for a sophomore. The forward had nine points tonight and made himself available inside plenty. Coleman has length and agility to power his way down low.
Best energy: Joe Deluzio (First Academy)
Only a freshman, the 6’6”, 195-pounder had 10 points in this one. Joe Deluzio has nice range and finds openings more often than not. He certainly benefited from his athletic lineup, but Deluzio gave the Royals solid minutes off the bench.
Best athlete: Chaundee Brown (First Academy)
Well before the game, everyone in attendance already knew that Brown was the top athlete in this matchup. Other guys have pure speed and other attributes, but nothing compares to Brown’s smoothness and overall athleticism. He had three dunks and made each one look very easy.
