10 Best: Class 5A-District 6 Championship
The Class 5A-District 6 tournament is now complete and we have crowned a district champion. In what was a fast paced, close game, Windermere Prep came out victorious to claim the district trophy. The score does not show just how close and fun this game was, the Lakers defeated The Master’s Academy 83-67.
MVP: Rahsaan Lewis (Windermere Prep)
Lewis was on a mission tonight, finishing the game with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. The class of 2018 point guard was key for the Lakers win, hitting big 3 after big 3 to go along with some huge steals down the stretch to seal the game.
Best aspect of the environment: Trophy Presentation
This is ultimately just a small step towards the Lakers ultimate goal of hoisting the big trophy at Lakeland, but it is a huge accomplishment in his own right, always great to see a team celebrating after accomplishing one of their goals.
Best offensive performance: David Nickelberry (Windermere Prep)
The senior was not going to end his High School career without grabbing at least one more trophy, David came up clutch for the Lakers, it seemed like every time Master’s had the game within reach, David hit a huge 3. Finishing with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.
Best defensive performance: Rahsaan Lewis (Windermere Prep)
Lewis usually has huge games on defense and tonight was no different, the 3 steals all came at key times in the game when the outcome was still in doubt.
Best catch and shoot guy: Xion Golding (Windermere Prep)
Golding is going to be key for the Lakers hopes of getting another state title, and he had some big buckets tonight, finishing with 11 points.
Best intangibles: Jose Placer (Master’s Academy)
Jose is such an impressive basketball player, I love the way he sees the floor, tonight he was willing his team to a district championship, unfortunately for him Windermere made one too many plays down the stretch. Placer finished the game with 27 points.
Best under-the-radar performance: Cole Thomas (Master’s Academy)
Cole has a nice stroke, he hit some open 3 point shots on his way to 9 points on the night.
Best passer: David Nickelberry (Windermere Prep)
I find myself asking how did he see that a lot while watching David play, this is the best part of his game and will only improve, he is poised for a great career.
Best rebounder: Brooks Cluxton (Master’s Academy)
Cluxton, a Senior is a high skilled big man, his positioning down low is as good as it gets, it allows him to grab board after board.
Best story to watch moving forward: Windermere Prep and The Master’s Academy
It is time for the state playoffs, both of these teams are headed to regionals and have a good chance of meeting again down the road.
