The Nature Coast senior helped his team capture the Bracket A championship at the fourth annual Nature Coast Christmas Tournament on Friday night.
At 6’6″, 210 lbs., McColley has an attacking mindset, but he can also knock down jumpers with the best of them. He averaged 16 points per game in the tournament as the Sharks improved to 14-0 and won the championship over Alonso.
McColley dropped a team-best 22 points against Lowndes (Ga.) in a semifinal game on Thursday. He calls this season a success so far as Nature Coast is currently undefeated.
“We have been tested in quite a few games so far but still found a way to come out with wins,” McColley said. “Coming into our tournament, we knew we were going to see some solid competition and I believe we turned some heads by winning against teams who were bigger and more athletic than us. Our biggest win in the tournament was probably against Lowndes who had only lost one game before we played them.”
Here’s how McColley breaks down his own game.
“I believe I have a nice all around game and try to impact the game every second I’m on the floor,” he said. “Offensively, I have a few moves that can get me by my first defender which helps me to get better scoring opportunities for me and my teammates.”
He’s aiming to become a better handler and defender in order to help his game at the next level.
“My mid-range jumper has improved this season and is one of my go-to moves,” he says.
McColley played this past summer for coach Tom Bieri and the Florida Legends for travel ball. He says next spring, he has options to play on the circuit as an unsigned senior.
No offers have come yet for McColley, but he’s generated interest from West Florida, Columbus State, Eckerd and Santa Fe. All three Florida colleges were in attendance at the Nature Coast Tournament last week.
I really like McColley’s game. He’s always having fun and locks in when he becomes an attacker whether he’s shooting from outside or taking the ball inside. McColley has the looks a very crafty low Division-I or Division-II player.
