The 6’0″, 160-pounder is averaging 7.8 points, 3.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season for the Warriors. Calvary Christian owns a 15-6 record and a 4-2 showing in Class 4A-District 4.
Thompson broke out last season as a junior with 10 double digit performances and an 8.1 PPG average. He has five games with 10 or more points already which includes an impressive 15 point outing against Clearwater Central Catholic on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.
He had this to say about his team’s season so far.
“It is going great. We beat some really good teams like Tampa prep and Kathleen,” Thompson said. “Our goals for this year are to win a state championship for the first time in school history. And our mindset is to come to practice every day to get better.”
In terms of his personal goals, here is what Thompson is looking to do.
“I’m aiming to get stronger and quicker to elevate my game,” he said. “My ability to get to the rim and scoring through contact has improved this year.”
Last week Thompson earned his first offer from Division-III Aurora. He has also drawn interest from Division-II programs Rowan, Newberry and Caldwell and NAIA school St. Xavier.
He says that Rowan has shown him the most interest as of late out of the Division-II list.
Here is how he sees himself fitting in at the next level.
“I think I can be a game changer by being a smart point guard who can shoot and create great shots for other teammates,” Thompson said.
Not only does he have a fantastic name for fans to chant, Juice, but he plays a nice style of basketball. Thompson is full of energy throughout games and when he needs to step up and make tough drives to the basket, he can. His jump shot is solid and he is a true team player. The senior should be contributing at the Division-II or Division-III this fall.
