Continue ReadingThe Master’s Academy basketball team has had a solid campaign up to this point, posting a 12-7 record including a 3-1 record in 5A district 6 play.
Led by their 6’1″ point guard Jose Placer, who is averaging 20.1 ppg(including 44 percent from three) to go along with 6.1 apg and 1.5 spg.
Placer, a Lake Highland Prep transfer has received an offer from the University of North Florida and receiving interest from ACC school Wake Forest.
When I spoke to Placer he mentioned that he wants to attend a college where he can contribute right away and leave an impact on the school.
When speaking about his team’s current season “I feel pretty good about our season, we’ve shown we can compete with anyone” Placer said. “We just have to clean some stuff up and I feel that we will make it to Lakeland(state tournament).”
As far as who Placer looks up to and models his game after, he mentioned the likes of Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, and Steph Curry. While watching Jose play you can definetly see the CP3 influence by the way he sees the floor, Placer is a pass first point guard who creates and sees the court as well as anyone I have seen in the area, but he will put his head down and get to the basket and get his team a bucket when they are in need of one.
You can see the confidence in his game and star power when you attend a game at the Master’s Academy as you hear the student section chanting his name every time he makes a tremendous play.
His game really flourished last week as he went head to head with Orlando’s top ranked team, The First Academy and helped his squad nearly pull off the upset.
With his court vision, terrific jumpshot, and great work in the classroom, Jose should be on a lot of radars for the rest of his junior year and upcoming senior year.
