The 6’10”, 225-pounder transferred down to Montverde this summer from Kelowna, British Columbia. He says he made the move because he felt like he didn’t want to stay there and be one of the best players. Instead, he wanted to push himself to get even better.
At 16-2, the Eagles are as dominant as ever with Shephard coming off the bench to pace the likes of R.J. Barrett, Andrew Nembhard, Marcus Carr, Sean Mobley, Rechon Black and Sandro Mamukelashvili. Shephard was able to score 12 points and five rebounds in a win over Tampa Catholic in Saturday’s ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest.
“This season has been a lot of fun so far with the teammates,” Shephard said. “Especially since we all get along and are very close. Our team is very unselfish for the most part.”
Shephard says his decision making and mental toughness have improved the most this season.
Currently, the Montverde center holds offers from Richmond and Seton Hall. He says Nevada, William & Mary, San Diego, Richmond and Cal Berkeley are showing the most interest in him.
“I feel like most teams don’t know who I am yet down here and I could give value to a lot of teams,” Shephard said. “My best attributes are size, athleticism, ability to catch, finish and rebound.”
An unknown to a good amount of scouts across the country, Shephard is in a great spot to improve his game tremendously at national powerhouse Montverde. His length is evident and so is his ability to find open space inside to work and attack. Shephard is polishing his game and could take an ever bigger step at the collegiate level in Division-I.
