Johnson Central competes in the 15th Region and are annual contenders to make it to the state tournament and compete at Rupp Arena. This year is no different. “The start of the season has went great. Our team has had the best start in school history with a 10-3 record,” said Crace. “There is some things we need to improve on and we’ve been working on fixing those in practice.”
Averaging 23.4 points and 8 rebounds per game, Crace is a combo guard who’s able to get to the basket, creating for himself and others. “If I drive you have to help on me, and if you do I’m going to kick it out to a shooter or create a shot for someone. One-on-one at the basket I feel like I can take it on just about anyone who’s in front of me. I can shoot a little bit when I’m open or off the dribble.”
This summer Cole started off playing AAU ball with Team Vision. “I performed well, then I switched over to Hoop Dreams and played really well with them. Even though I came into their program late, I can’t thank those guys enough for helping me the way they have and taking me in as one of their own.” Crace worked on his jump shot off the dribble and spot up shooting from everywhere during the off-season. “I also worked on stuff off the court like being a better leader.”
Crace said that he has the University of Pikeville, Shawnee State, Indiana Wesleyan, and Thomas More currently showing interest in him. In looking for a college, Crace had this to say – “Like a lot of players, I’d like to go somewhere and play immediately, but I think what I look for the most is a coach I can have a good relationship with. The coach means everything to me. I would like to be on a nice campus as well.”
Some of Cole’s goals this season include having a winning season (which Johnson Central is well on the way to accomplishing), wining the district and region championships, becoming a member of the 1,000 point club, making the all-region and all-state teams, winning 15th Region POY, making it to the state final four, and win 30 games for the first time in school history.
