Kentucky’s Mid-Season Report: 1st and 2nd Regions
Prep Hoops Kentucky is breaking down mid-season rankings from the top three teams in the state’s 16 regions. We will be breaking down the 1st and 2nd regions below:
1st Region
1.) Graves County (10-4, 4-0)
With notable region wins over Paducah Tilghman, Murray, Calloway County and an out of region victory over Henry Clay, Graves County is holding on to it’s preseason billing as one of the top teams in the 1st region. Graves County is led by senior big man and Northern Kentucky commit Chris Vogt. The Mr. Basketball candidate is averaging 14 points and 9 rebounds per game. He is also one of the state’s all-time block leaders.
2.) Marshall County (9-3, 4-0)
Marshall County currently sits 4-0 in the region (9-3 overall) with notable wins against Murray and McCracken County. Marshall had a great showing in Florida while participating in the Marlin Christmas Classic, finishing 2-1 while in Panama City. Junior Dylan Walters leads Marshall County in scoring with 17 points per game, followed by junior Aaron Reed (13 points) and senior Houston Harvey (11.4 points).
3.) Calloway County (9-4, 3-2)
Calloway County hung tough with 1st region favorite Graves County on the road 40-48 and beat 3rd region contender Meade County during a holiday classic. Calloway County is led by Kamden Price who is averaging 20 points per game and 3 rebounds.
2nd Region
1.) Christian County (11-1, 2-0)
Led by Coastal Carolina commit Jaylen Sebree (22 points per game), D-I prospect Detorrion Ware (18 points per game), and T’Aiveyhon Mason (16 points per game), Christian County is tough team to take down. With their only loss coming to state contender Fern Creek, Christian County has defeated an impressive resume of North Hardin, Graves County, Louisville Doss, Cooper, and Owensboro on their way to a 11-1 record.
2.) Hopkinsville (9-4, 3-0)
Hopkinsville has knocked off out of region powers Waggener and Paducah Tilghman while also taking down 2nd region rival University Heights. Hopkinsville is led by junior Jalen Johnson, who is averaging just over 20 points per game and 6 rebounds.
3.) University Heights (5-9, 1-1)
Don’t let their record fool you. University Heights has played seven teams outside the state of Kentucky. In their losses, they’ve been in almost every game. They lost by 3 to Hopkinsville on the road and beat a talented 4th region Russellville team. They also boast one of the state’s most talented teams with Tray Hollowell (20.6 points per game) and one of the state’s top 2019 prospects, “KyKy” Tandy (25 points per game).
